We did WTL #4 before starting the story, "Contents of the Dead Man's Pocket" in our textbook. We did not get through the story, we will finish it, and complete our plot analysis next time.

I presented a powerpoint with several literary terms associated (and including) plot. See the powerpoint attached. You took notes in your literary terms section of your notebook. I showed three commercials in which you were to identify (in writing, under your plot notes in your notebook) the four parts of the plot of each commercial. Plot Powerpoint Honesty Commercial AOW#4 discussion for participation credit (two or more comments)
In your "craft" section of your notebook, you completed your 1-paragraph
research paper in class. 1. Read the article "Selfies: Your 2013 Oxford English dictionary word of the year." 2. Write a 1-paragraph reflection in MLA format. 3. Make sure you have 2 quotes with lead-ins and that the quotes are relevant to your content. Cite the quotes using MLA format. Create a works cited page. Make sure your table of contents is up-to-date for next week's notebook check. Tomorrow is the last day to turn in your one-pager for November. Selfie Article You watched a video on using quotes in your writing, specifically how to do a quote lead-in and how to cite using MLA. I then wrote a 1-page research paper based off of information from the turkey shortage article. You will conduct a 1-page research paper next time. Quotes Video Career Exploration took the first half of class (in the writing lab with the
counselor). We did our EDvisory today (to be every late start day from here on out). You have until next time to turn in your AOW3s revised for full credit. MLA works cited page/parenthetical citations lesson. See the video in the MLA
section of the website. You should have notes in your MLA section of your notebook. We practiced identifying the 8 parts of speech using the story on the board. We
completed WTL#3 and then used it to create mad-libs. Unfortunately we did not get a chance to complete our mad-libs in class. We will do that next time. Your assignment is to finish preparing your mad-lib by taking out the nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs from every other sentence in your WTL. Make sure to have a list of what you need so when you get to class next time, you can ask your partner for the replacements. I passed back and discussed your Theme and Characterization worksheets. You
have until next time to resubmit for more credit. I also passed back your Hero's Journey papers, also due next time for resubmission. We did WTL#2. We discussed the 8 parts of speech and you took notes in your notebook in your Editing section. As a class, we identified interjections in a comic. I went over MLA Basic format via video and discussion. You can find the video (or a version of it) in the MLA section of my website. Also, today was EDvisory. If you missed your opportunity to meet with me during class, as usual I am available almost every day until 4:45
We organized our notebooks and added our first WTL in the writing section. The sections of the notebook are as follows: Table of Contents, etc.
WTL #1: Tell me everything you have learned/remember about MLA format. Once you have written down everything you can remember, write down why you think we use MLA format to write our papers. "MLA format is somewhat of a strange concept for ALL students so far. I am quite surprised at how many students start to spaz out about it. They seem to go into panic mode. Having used MLA for so many years, I am surprised at how easy it is now. I wish I could teach a different format, but unfortunately MLA is adopted by all English classes. I wonder how many of my students are going to move on to another format when they move into their perspective professional roles. I wonder what that format will look like. They already follow formatting rules in their daily lives. I should think of a way to incorporate that background knowledge so they engage." - Ms. Morey's WTL response. |
